Karl W. Hilpert (born June 23, 1960 in Schweinfurt ) is a German journalist , radio and television presenter .

Activity as a journalist / moderator

Hilpert graduated from school in his hometown Schweinfurt and studied in Hesse before he returned to Franconia and gained his first experience in journalism through traineeships at the radio and television stations Primaton , Charivari and TV 1 .

He began his career in the media industry as a reporter and planning editor in the regional studio of the BR in Würzburg . Among other things, he moderated the radio program “Mittags in Mainfranken” on Bayern 1 . Since he had actively participated in cycling races himself at a young age, his professional interest was also in sport. The then TV sports director Eberhard Stanjek brought him into the sports department of the BR in the 1990s, where he regularly moderates the program Sport in Bayern , which he also helps shape the content. He is also the presenter of the Saturday edition of Blickpunkt Sport . For many years he also commented as a sports journalist on the Bayern Tour for Bayerischer Rundfunk . He is also the author of longer film projects such as "Tore, Titel, Tränen" - a film about the traditional German handball club TV Großwallstadt .

Hilpert is also interested in the daily reporting. Since 1994, when the Frankenschau Aktuell format was born, he has been an integral part of the trio of moderators. In weekly rotation with colleagues Karin Schubert and Julia Büchler , he presents the latest from the regions from Monday to Friday in the Studio Franken.

He regularly creates contributions for the broadcast formats Rundschau and Abendschau , which he often also moderates, for example in the context of the overall editions with the moderators from Munich and specials such as Challenge Roth .

In this context, the BR campaign “3 Angels for Charly” has also become well known. Every year three women are selected here to compete in the Triathlon Challenge Roth as a BR Franken relay . In addition to the media support, Hilpert also takes on the role of team manager in the weeks and months before the event and provides advice to the women during training.

Private

Charly Hilpert spends his free time with sporting activities such as cycling and motorcycling. The moderator is also a passionate rider - a hobby that he shares with daughter Jasmin. As part of the promotion of young cycling talent, he has been volunteering for the Herrmann cycling team from Baiersdorf since 2018. He lives with his wife in the Fürth district.
