Chemical plant Voslapp
The chemical plant Voslapp is a chemical factory for the production of vinyl chloride and polyvinyl chloride (PVC) in Wilhelmshaven . The factory premises are located in the Wilhelmshaven district of Voslapper Groden, directly on the deep Jade fairway . The plant, which is operated by Vynova Wilhelmshaven GmbH , part of the International Chemical Investors Group (ICIG) , is one of the largest PVC producers in Europe. The main chimney of the plant is 180 meters high.
production
Production takes place in two steps in separate plants:
- in the northern part of the plant is selected from ethylene and chlorine , or from ethylene , the vinyl chloride produced;
- in the southern part of the system is made of vinyl chloride by polymerization of the polyvinyl chloride prepared.
The required raw materials to chlorine was July 2013 in another factory in Wilhelmshaven on the Rüstersieler Groden ( 53.565 ° N , 8.125 ° O ) was prepared and delivered using a 12-kilometer chlorine gas pipeline. Since the chlorine plant was shut down, ethylene dichloride has been delivered by ship. The raw material ethylene, which is required together with chlorine, is landed via ship deliveries with liquid gas tankers . There are two large storage tanks on the factory premises for the ethylene, which is liquefied at −103 ° C. A separate jetty on the Jade enables short and tide-independent transport routes.
The production capacity is 380,000 tons of PVC per year. Together with the plant in Rüstersiel, around 350 people were directly employed by INEOS (the operator at the time) in 2011 .
history
After a factory for chlor-alkali electrolysis had already been opened in 1971 in the district of Rüstersiel (operator was initially Alusuisse Atlantik GmbH ), this factory was taken over by the ICI Group in 1978 , which started building a factory for PVC production in the nearby Voslapper Groden began. The plant in Voslapp was opened in June 1981.
In 1995 the plant was taken over by EVC Germany , which was previously responsible for product sales. In the spring of 2001, the plant was then taken over by the British chemical company Ineos , together with the plant in Rüstersiel .
On June 9, 2015, the International Chemical Investors Group (ICIG) announced that it would acquire the facility (along with other INEOS interests) on August 1, 2015. For this purpose, the vinyl activities of ICIG have been combined to form the Vynova group of companies.
