Chen (state)
Chen ( Chinese 陳 ) was a small state in the Western Zhou Dynasty and the Spring and Autumn period in China . Its territory consisted of a city near present-day Huaiyang ( Henan Province ). At that time, Chen formed the border with Chu State .
The ruling family of Chen claimed to be descended from Emperor Shun . King Wu is said to have been after the subjugation of the Shang Dynasty around 1046 BC. BC the potter Gui Man ( 媯 滿 ) gave the fiefdom of Chen, who is said to have been a descendant of the emperor Shun.
Chen later became a satellite state of Chu and fought as its ally in the Battle of Chengpu . In 479 BC Chen was finally annexed by Chu. After the destruction of the Chu capital, Ying, Chen became the capital of Chu for a while.
