Chen Jiakang

Chen Jiakang ( Chinese  陈家康 , Pinyin Chén Jiākāng ; * January 1913 in Wuxue , Hubei ; † July 7, 1970 ) was a diplomat of the People's Republic of China , who was ambassador to Egypt between 1956 and 1965 and ambassador to Yemen from 1958 to 1963 was. He then served as Deputy Foreign Minister from 1965 until his death in 1970.

Life

Chen Jiakang graduated from Wuhan University and joined the Alliance of Left Social Scientists in Shanghai in the winter of 1934 . In December 1935, he became a member of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP). Subsequently, he was a member of the Jiangsu Provincial Military Committee and director of its 4th Division, secretary to the vice chairman of the CCP Zhou Enlai , a member of the foreign affairs committee of the South Office of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (Central Committee) and deputy director of its foreign affairs department Group. He later served as the CCP's spokesman in Shanghai, director of the First Section of the Foreign Policy Group of the Central Military Commission (ZMC) before he was secretary of Dong Biwu , the CCP's representative to the Chinese delegation to the San Francisco Conference . At the Seventh Party Congress (April 23 to June 11, 1945) he became a candidate for the Central Committee.

After the founding of the People's Republic of China on October 1, 1949, Chen became a member of the Central Committee of the New Democratic Youth League, the predecessor organization of the CCP's Communist Youth League, and served as the deputy general director of its relations department from 1949 to 1950. In 1950 he moved to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and between March 1950 and September 1952 was Deputy General Director and Acting General Director of the Asia Department, whose General Director he was between September 1952 and July 1956. In this capacity he also became Assistant Foreign Minister in July 1955. In July 1956 he became the first ambassador of the People's Republic of China to Egypt and held this post until December 1965, whereupon Huang Hua took his place there in March 1966. In addition, he became the first ambassador to Yemen in May 1958 and held this post in personal union until May 1963, although this post was not filled until May 1964 with Wang Ruojie . After his return from Egypt he became Deputy Foreign Minister in January 1966 and held this office until his death on July 7, 1970.
