Chestertown is a city in Kent County in the US state of Maryland , United States and is the seat of the county government. In 2010 it had a population of 5,252 according to the census.
history
The city was founded at the mouth of the Chester River in 1706. Chestertown became wealthy through shipbuilding. In the mid- 18th century , Chestertown was Maryland's premier port after Annapolis . A wealthy class of traders brought wealth to the city and built brick buildings.
Chestertown received city rights in 1805 and was named after the Chester River
