Chalco ( Aluminum Corporation of China Ltd .; Chinese 中国 铝业 股份有限公司 , abbreviation: 中国 铝业) is a Chinese aluminum manufacturer. The company was listed in the SSE 50 share index.
The parent company is the Chinese state group CHINALCO (Aluminum Corporation of China - without "Ltd.").
Positioning in the market
Chalco claims to be the largest aluminum producer in China and the third largest in the world. According to the company, 70 percent of China's aluminum demand is met by Chalco. One of the largest shareholders is the world's largest aluminum producer Alcoa (USA) with a stake of eight percent .
Locations
Chalco operates refineries and smelters in Qinghai , Guizhou , Shanxi , Henan , Shandong provinces and Guangxi Autonomous Region . The company is based in Beijing .
Ownership
Chalco shares are traded in Hong Kong and New York . However, the majority of the shares are held by the State Assets Control and Management Commission of the State Council of the People's Republic of China .
Holdings
In August 2007, Chinalco (the parent company) took over 100% of the shares in Peru Copper Inc. , which in turn is the owner of Minera Chinalco Peru SA (before the takeover: Minera Peru Copper ). This company is developing the Toromocho project (location: Mina Morococha 150 km northeast of Lima ), a 30-year open pit mine from which copper, molybdenum and silver will be extracted.
