Chiozza is a district of Castiglione di Garfagnana in the province of Lucca , Tuscany region in Italy .

The place is about 2 km east of the main town Castiglione di Garfagnana, about 35 km north of the provincial capital Lucca and about 80 km northwest of the regional capital Florence in the upper valley of the Serchio in the Garfagnana landscape . The place is at 925 m and had about 150 inhabitants in 2001. In 2017 there were 92.

history

The place arose along the ancient mountain road that connects Castiglione di Garfagnana with Modena . In the 13th century the place was incorporated into the area of ​​Lucca under the name Chiosa and was mentioned under this name in the statutes of Lucca in 1308. Since 1272 the place belonged to the Vicariate Vicaria di Castiglione . The castle Castrum Chioggie is mentioned in the 14th century , but it soon lost its importance and is no longer there today.

The Church of San Bartolomeo
  • Chiesa di San Bartolomeo , church in the town center, which was probably built around the year 1000. She was in 1168 in a document from Pope Alexander III. mentioned as belonging to the Pieve San Giovanni Battista in Pieve Fosciana and today belongs to the Archdiocese of Lucca . From 1391 it was under the control of the Church of San Pietro in Castiglione di Garfagnana. In 1790, Filippo Sardi, Archbishop of Lucca , gave San Bartolomeo the right to carry out baptisms and burials. The church was enlarged from 1828 to 1846 with financial support from Francis IV and in 1929 received the status of a parish church ( parrocchia ).
