Antonín Chittussi
Antonín Chittussi (born December 1, 1847 in Ronov nad Doubravou , † May 1, 1891 in Prague ) was a Czech painter .
Life
His mother was Czech, while his father was of Italian descent. Chittussi initially studied at the Technical University and later moved to the Prague Art Academy , from which he was expelled together with Mikoláš Aleš . He continued his studies at the Royal Art Academy in Munich and then at the Vienna Art Academy . From 1873 to 1878 he was drafted into the war in Bosnia-Herzegovina as a reservist . From then on, the war experiences shaped his personality. He became melancholy, suspicious, and impulsive. The pictures from this time are still imperfect, as are the pictures he created after returning home.
The upheaval came when his dream came true and he was able to go to Paris with the help of Julius Zeyer . He combined his artistic experience with the arts of French landscape painting. His paintings were shaped by the masters of the Barbizon School . They were successfully exhibited in well-known studios. In 1880 he also painted some still lifes .
In 1882 he returned to Bohemia and had to experience that his works were less recognized here than in France and that he was assigned to the Impressionists . He returned to Paris, which he left, longing for his homeland. Eventually he settled in Člunek near Jindřichův Hradec and later moved to Třeboň .
He painted his landscapes from nature. The landscape painting with a view of Prague was created in 1888. Since his works were not recognized either at home or abroad, he traveled disappointed through Bohemia and the Tatras and also visited the Paris World Exhibition . He did not recover from severe bronchitis and died withdrawn at the age of 43. He was buried in the Vyšehrad cemetery.
