Chu Yuan
Chu Yuan ( Chinese 楚 原 , Pinyin Chǔ Yuán , Jyutping Co 2 Jyun 4 , Cantonese Choir Yuen ; born September 16, 1934 in Guangzhou , Republic of China ) is a Chinese film director , screenwriter and actor .
Chu Yuan's native name is Cheung Po Kin ( 張寶堅 / 张宝坚 , Zhāng Bǎojiān ). As the only son of the actor Cheung Wood Yau ( 張 活 游 / 张 活 游 , Zhāng Huóyóu ), Chu first studied chemistry at the Sun Yat-sen University in Guangzhou (Canton). Under the pseudonym Qín Yǔ ( 秦 雨 ) or Zhāng Bǎozǎi ( 張寶 仔 / 张宝 仔 ) he wrote his first screenplay for the film industry in 1956; the following year he began working as a director. When the number of productions in the genre of the then popular “Yueyu films” ( 粵語 長 片 / 粤语 长 片 - “literally Cantonese feature films”) in the Hong Kong film industry gradually declined in the late 1960s , Chu was already over 70 as a director Film productions behind.
