Chu Yuan

Chu Yuan ( Chinese  楚 原 , Pinyin Chǔ Yuán , Jyutping Co 2 Jyun 4 , Cantonese  Choir Yuen ; born September 16, 1934 in Guangzhou , Republic of China ) is a Chinese film director , screenwriter and actor .

Chu Yuan's native name is Cheung Po Kin ( 張寶堅  /  张宝坚 , Zhāng Bǎojiān ). As the only son of the actor Cheung Wood Yau ( 張 活 游  /  张 活 游 , Zhāng Huóyóu ), Chu first studied chemistry at the Sun Yat-sen University in Guangzhou (Canton). Under the pseudonym Qín Yǔ ( 秦 雨 ) or Zhāng Bǎozǎi ( 張寶 仔  /  张宝 仔 ) he wrote his first screenplay for the film industry in 1956; the following year he began working as a director. When the number of productions in the genre of the then popular “Yueyu films” ( 粵語 長 片  /  粤语 长 片  - “literally Cantonese feature films”) in the Hong Kong film industry gradually declined in the late 1960s , Chu was already over 70 as a director Film productions behind. After marrying the famous actress Nam Hung ( 南 紅  /  南 红 , Nán Hóng ) in 1962, he helped found the production company Rose Motion Picture Co. When he worked for the Cathay Studio ( 國泰 電影 公司  /  国泰 电影 公司 ) directed the film Cold Blade , an early wuxia film , he received an offer to join the Shaw Brothers in 1971 . There he established himself not only as a director who produced well-known martial arts films through the studio , but also erotic material such as Intimate Confessions of a Chinese Courtesan ( 愛奴  /  爱奴 , Àinú ), which was named one of the ten best films in 1973 World was chosen. In his Martial Art films, he established the genre-typical sword fighting films with Ti Lung in the lead role, which were often supported by a number of beautiful colleagues. In addition to more than 120 films as a director, Chu also established himself as an actor from the mid-1980s.
