Chris Berger (musician)

Chris Berger (* around 1970 in Dayton , Ohio ) is an American modern jazz musician ( double bass ) .

Live and act

Berger first played the electric bass when he was eleven ; at the age of 16 he discovered the double bass and jazz for himself. First appearances at the local level in Dayton followed. He then studied jazz and classical music at Bowling Green State University , as well as taking lessons from jazz musicians in Toledo, Ohio. After his training he worked with Ernie Krivda (with whom the first recordings were made in 1991), as well as with guest musicians such as Joe Lovano , Jimmy Ponder and Joe Williams . In 1993 he toured with Maynard Ferguson and His Big Bop Nouveau in the USA, Europe and Asia. With Ferguson he also recorded for Concord Jazz . In 1994 he moved to New York City, where he has been working ever since. a. with John Abercrombie , Toshiko Akiyoshi , Jimmy Cobb , Richie Cole , Herb Ellis , David Hazeltine , Mundell Lowe , Junior Mance , Dado Moroni , Mickey Roker , Jeff Tain Watts , Loston Harris , James Williams , Russell Malone , Eric Alexander and Maria Schneider . In the field of jazz he was involved in 19 recording sessions between 1991 and 2016. Berger released the album Conversations under his own name . Currently (2019) he plays in the Hendrik Meurkens Quintet.
