Chris Henry (born May 17, 1983 in Belle Chasse , Louisiana , † December 17, 2009 in Charlotte , North Carolina ) was an American American football player in the position of wide receiver . He played five years for the Cincinnati Bengals in the National Football League (NFL).
After playing college football with the West Virginia Mountaineers at West Virginia University , he was awarded a professional contract with the Bengals in 2005.
During his professional career, he often came into conflict with the law. He has been arrested several times for driving under the influence of psychoactive substances , possession of marijuana , mistreatment and damage to property . In 2008 he was suspended for the first four games of the season due to such events. Before the start of the 2008 season , his contract with the Cincinnati Bengals was terminated because of his behavior, but Henry was brought back to the team a few months later by Mike Brown , President of the Bengals. Brown was convinced that Henry could get his life under control. After his reinstatement, he actually no longer came into conflict with the law.
Henry died in a traffic accident on December 17, 2009, leaving behind his fiancée and three children. Half a year after his death, it was revealed that Henry suffered from the neural disorder dementia pugilistica , making him the first known active player in the NFL with the syndrome.
