History and architecture

The construction of the church began in 2009. The construction of the Church of the Ascension of Christ was the common concern of all the villagers of Tupanari, those who live in the village as well as those in the diaspora , with the main goal of building a house of worship for their descendants to pray together.

The church was built according to the design of the architect Milisav Jokić , who comes from the village Jakovica near Šekovići. The church foundations were inaugurated in the same year by Archpriest Dragan Tomić with the blessing of the episcopes ( bishop ) of the Zvornik-Tuzla Vasilije (Kačavenda) eparchy.

The single-nave church was built in the Serbian-Byzantine style , with an altar - apse in the east and a tower with a bell and an onion dome in the west. The church is made of bricks and has the dimensions 9 × 4 m. The roof of the church is covered with sheet metal.

The construction work on the church building was completed in 2011 after three years of construction. And in the same year the church was solemnly consecrated by Bishop Vasilije (Kačavenda).

The Ascension Church was painted with Byzantine frescoes from 2010 to 2011 by Živorad Ilić from the western Serbian city of Loznica . The iconostasis from maple wood was carved by Cvijetin Martić from the municipal capital Šekovići. The icons were painted like the frescoes by Živorad Ilić.

Archpriest Dragan Tomić has been the acting priest of the Church of the Ascension of Christ in Tupanari since the branch church was built until today .
