Christian Alexander Oedtl (* around 1661 in Tyrol ; † January 6, 1737 ) was an Austrian architect and builder of the Baroque era .

Life

Oedtl worked as an imperial builder in Vienna. In 1699 he was involved in the planning of the Questenberg-Kaunitz Palace in Vienna. At the beginning of the 18th century he was one of the largest building contractors in Vienna and worked with Johann Bernhard Fischer von Erlach and Lukas Hildebrandt. Among other things, he led the reconstruction of Trautmannsdorf Castle, including the installation of the castle chapel. Oedtl later also supplied its own construction plans.

Commissioned by Prince Dietrichstein , in 1719 he drafted the plans for the reconstruction of the burned-out Nikolsburg Palace . The three-storey south and west wings as well as the outside staircase to the summer riding school were built. Oedtl built the Alserkirche in Vienna according to plans by Matthias Steinl . He also directed the construction of the parish church in Laxenburg based on a design by Johann Wieser .

According to more recent findings, Oedtl is also regarded as the architect of the Windisch-Graetz Palace, built around 1703 in Vienna's Renngasse.

Between 1750 and 1760, the Prštice Castle was redesigned in Baroque style according to Oedtl's plans. Together with Jakob Prandtauer , Oedtl drafted the plans for the Prandtauer Hof in Vienna.

Oedtl left a list of his works, built between 1683 and 1726, which can be found mainly in Lower Austria.
