Christian Arming

Christian Arming (born March 18, 1971 in Vienna ) is an Austrian conductor .

Life

Christian Arming studied at the Vienna Music Academy with Leopold Hager . At the age of 24, Arming was appointed chief conductor of the Janáček Philharmonic Ostrava . From 2001 to 2004 he was chief conductor of the Lucerne Symphony Orchestra and music director of the Lucerne Theater , where he directed numerous opera productions. Working with Seiji Ozawa took him to Tanglewood several times between 1992 and 1998 , where he directed the Boston Symphony Orchestra . In 1997 and 1999 Arming conducted at the Salzburg Festival . He conducted in Cincinnati , at the Frankfurt Opera and at the Prague Spring ( Czech Philharmonic ). To date, Arming has made guest appearances with over fifty orchestras, including the Vienna Symphony , the RSO Vienna , the German Symphony Orchestra in Berlin , the RSO Frankfurt, the MDR Symphony, the Munich Philharmonic , SWR Stuttgart, the Dresden State Orchestra , the Dresden Philharmonic and the Rai Orchestra Sinfonica Nationale , Camerata Salzburg , Orchester National Capitole etc. In May 2008 Arming stepped in for Georges Prêtre in Rome with Gustav Mahler's Symphony No. 5.

Arming has been chief conductor of the New Japan Philharmonic in Tokyo since 2003 , and from 2011 to 2019 he was chief conductor of the Orchester Philharmonique Royal de Liège . In 2017 he was also appointed first guest conductor of the Hiroshima Symphony Orchestra. Arming has made numerous recordings of works by Brahms , Beethoven , Mahler and Janáček.

Christian Arming lives in Los Angeles with his wife, actress Catherine Le Blanc. You have two children.
