Christian August Fischer (born August 29, 1771 in Leipzig , † April 14, 1829 in Mainz ) was a German writer . He used the pseudonyms Felix von Fröhlichsheim and Christian Althing , among others .

Life

Fischer studied law in Leipzig from 1788 to 1792 . After traveling through Europe for several years, he settled in Dresden as a private scholar in 1799 . In 1803 he was elected a corresponding member of the Göttingen Academy of Sciences . In 1804 he became a professor of cultural history and beautiful literature in Würzburg .

Before 1800, Fischer was also in Constantinople . In his volume of memoirs, Hyacinthen in mein Kerker, published in 1824, he dedicated the chapter The Epicureans at Constantinople to his stay in Turkey . Fischer had been living with the German writer and women's rights activist Caroline Auguste Fischer from around 1801 , with whom he had a son since 1803. The marriage entered into in 1808 was divorced after just eight months.

In 1821 Fischer published the pamphlet Katzensprung from Frankfurt am Main to Munich under the pseudonym Felix von Fröhlichsheim , which earned him the release of an academic teacher and three years imprisonment for insulting the Bavarian finance minister von Lerchenfeld . He processed his imprisonment literarily in the work Hyacinths in my dungeon .

reception

In Arno Schmidt's story Tina or about immortality , Fischer is the companion (next to Tina Halein ) who leads the first-person narrator through the poet's lysium.
