Christian Carpzov

Christian Carpzov (born April 20, 1605 in Colditz ; † December 20, 1642 in Frankfurt (Oder) ) was a German lawyer and legal scholar.

Life

Christian Carpzov was a son of Benedikt Carpzov the Elder . He studied at the universities of Wittenberg , Leipzig , Jena and Heidelberg . He received his doctorate in law from the University of Strasbourg . After working as a lawyer in Wittenberg and lecturing at the university, he was appointed professor and assessor at the law faculty at the University of Frankfurt (Oder) . His contemporaries portray him as an incompatible man whose marriage should not have been a happy one either.
