Christian Eckert (musician)
Christian Eckert (born July 30, 1965 in Weinheim ) is a German jazz guitarist .
Live and act
Eckert began studying jazz and popular music in 1990. The first semester he studied at the Hilversum Conservatory , then he switched to the Constantijn Huygens Conservatory in Zwolle to continue his studies with Hans Vogt. A scholarship enabled him to study at New York's New School in 1992 from the guitarist who impressed and probably influenced him most musically: Jim Hall . His training was also shaped by teachers such as Hal Galper , John Abercrombie and Peter Bernstein . During this time he performed with Dizzy Gillespie pianist Ray Bryant, among others . After returning to the Netherlands, Eckert finished his studies with a master class.
Eckert has lived in Germany again since 1995. At first he was mainly active here with his own quartet ( Double You , 2000, with Joe Bartmes, Johannes Schaedlich , Dirik Schilgen ) and various trios & duos, but is also active in a number of other projects. As a freelance musician he played with the " Sam Yahel European Trio", the New York bassist Steve Doyle, the Seattle-based drummer Matt Jorgensen , the Fritz Münzer tentet and the Sapporo Sound Motel electronics quartet with Eva Mayerhofer and Ulli Jünemann . In North America, Eckert plays every autumn in clubs on the west and east coasts with old classmates or newcomers; In 2014, Chamber 3 produced the album Grassroots (with Steffen Weber and Matt Jorgensen).
He is particularly committed to the jazz scene in his home region: As chairman of the IG-Jazz Rhein-Neckar, he has been committed to a good concert program for years. He is the head of the jazz workshop in Freinsheim , and together with the Phazz-A-Delic label organizes cross-genre electronic sessions and a Two Guitars concert series at the Jazzhaus Heidelberg. Eckert lives with his family in Weinheim an der Bergstrasse.
