Christian Eisbein

Christian Eisbein (born July 5, 1917 in Halle (Saale) ; † July 1, 2009 in Westerholt , East Friesland ) was a sculptor , book author and conservationist .

Life

The trained farmer and art teacher Christian Eisbein became known for his commitment to the preservation of the Lower Saxony Wadden Sea and the ban on seal hunting .

He was a founding member of the Ostfriesischer Kunstkreis.

In the 1980s and 90s Christian Eisbein published the club magazine “Die Wattläufer eV” with comments and glosses on current events. He liked to describe himself as a troublemaker and underlined this in 1993 with the publication of his book "A 'troublemaker' survived".

Sculptures (selection)

  • Grandmother and grandson (1970) in front of the Helenenstift in Hage , Hauptstrasse.
  • Keerlke (created in 1985 based on the fictional character in Wilhelmine Siefkes' great novel "Keerlke") in the courtyard of the town hall of Leer . A scaled-down form of the clay sculpture has been awarded annually as the Keerlke Prize since 1993 .
  • Lüttje Dirk (1997) on Ostertorstrasse in Remels . Dirk Flitz, called "Lüttje Dirk", was a Remels original.
  • He is buten bleven (1998) on Störtebekerstraße in Dornumersiel . The sadly melancholy sculpture shows a sailor's wife with her child, whose husband “stayed at sea”.
