Life

Christian Ernst was the son of the poet and founder of the comic opera in Germany Christian Felix Weisse (1726–1804). He began studying law at the University of Leipzig , moved to the University of Göttingen in 1786 and returned to Leipzig in 1788 as a private lecturer. At the expense of the Saxon government, he went on a trip in 1790, spending two years in Wetzlar , Regensburg and Vienna to familiarize himself with practical constitutional law.

When he returned to Leipzig, he gave lectures on history and constitutional law. In March 1795 he became associate professor of law, 1800 assessor at the court of higher courts , 1805 professor of feudal law, 1809 assessor of the law faculty and in 1811 full fifth professor of criminal law. In 1818 he rose to the fourth full professorship. In 1821 he became the third professor and associated canon in Naumburg . In 1824 he rose to the second professorship at the law faculty.

Weisse had also participated in the organizational tasks of the Leipzig University and had been elected rector of the Alma Mater in the winter semesters of 1815, 1817, 1821, 1825 and 1827 . He died on his family estate in Stötteritz. Weisse, who had also published his father's autobiography, gained a lot of recognition, especially in the field of Saxon history.

He is the father of the theologian Christian Hermann Weisse (1801–1866).
