Christian Fandrych (* 1961 ) is a German linguist .

Career

Fandrych studied German , history , education and German as a foreign language in Göttingen and Munich . In 1992 he did his doctorate on part of speech, word formation and communicative function under Ludwig Eichinger . Several positions followed as a research assistant and lecturer at the University of Passau , the University of Munich , the National University of Mexico in Mexico City and at King's College in London. In 2006 he was appointed Professor of Linguistics of German as a Foreign Language at the Herder Institute at Leipzig University.

Fandrych has been co-editor of the journals Foreign Language German and Target Language German since 2006 ; since 2008 he has also been editor-in-chief of German as a Foreign Language . Since 2015 he has been chairman of the Language Advisory Board of the Goethe Institute ; From 2012 to 2016 he was also chairman of the German Studies Advisory Board of the DAAD . He has been a member of the scientific advisory board of the German as a Foreign Language Association since 2015.

Awards

Christian Fandrych was awarded the Konrad Duden Prize in 2018 . The decision of the jury was justified as follows:

"The linguist Christian Fandrych is characterized above all by his in-depth interest in the areas of contrastive linguistics and language didactics. Right from the beginning of his academic career, he attached particular importance to teaching German as a Foreign Language (DaF) and worked intensively on possible optimizations and Innovations in this discipline, such as distance learning courses for GFL teachers abroad. "
