life and work

Fenouillat studied architecture in Grenoble and has been working as a stage and set designer for film , theater and music theater since 1974 . For many years - together with Cavalca and Foren - he has been part of the core team of the Belgian-French directing duo Leiser / Caurier, whom he accompanied during their careers through smaller and larger opera houses in France, French-speaking Switzerland and Great Britain. The international breakthrough of the five-man creative team came on the one hand in 2000 with the first premiere at the Royal Opera House Covent Garden in London (Rossini's La Cenerentola ), on the other hand in 2008 with the commitment to the Zurich Opera by Alexander Pereira , where five model productions were created: Halévys Clari , the world premiere by Dalbavies Gesualdo , as well as the three Rossini operas Le comte Ory , Mosè in Egitto and Otello .

The two directors, the two outfitters and the lighting designer have been working frequently in Austria since 2012 - again at the invitation of Pereira at the Salzburg Whitsun and Summer Festivals , also at the Bregenz Festival , in the Theater an der Wien and at the Vienna State Opera . In Salzburg, together with the artistic director and singer Cecilia Bartoli , they worked on Handel's Giulio Cesare in Egitto in 2012 , Bellini's Norma in 2013 and Gluck's Iphigénie en Tauride at Whitsun 2015 .

Fenouillat has also furnished a number of plays - including texts by Edward Bond , Marie N'Diaye , Federico García Lorca , Luigi Pirandello , August Strindberg and John Millington Synge , all in France. For the cinema he has worked with the directors Marguerite Duras , Jean-Luc Godard and Bruno Victor-Pujebet . He also takes part in art exhibitions, including a duo exhibition with Juliette Binoche .
