Christian Fitzner

Christian Fitzner (born May 15, 1962 in Stuttgart ) is a German conductor .

Life

After graduating from school, Christian Fitzner went to the Stuttgart University of Music in 1978 , where he studied piano and horn with Johannes Ritzkowsky , Mahir Çakar and Hermann Baumann . He continued studying music in Professor Thomas Ungar's Kapellmeister class . In 1988 he obtained the title of qualified conductor. At that time there were concerts with the Württemberg Philharmonic in Reutlingen , the Baden-Baden Orchestra, the New Symphonic Orchestra Boston, the Southwest German Chamber Orchestra and the Orchestra Filharmonica di Russe.

From 1987 Christian Fitzner worked in Wangen im Allgäu , where he directed the symphonic city orchestra there until 1993. In 1990 he took over the direction of the State Youth Chamber Orchestra North Rhine-Westphalia , for which he had worked as an assistant since 1986. In 1992 he worked for the Bilkent University in Ankara and the German-Portuguese Youth Symphony Orchestra and successfully took part in numerous concerts abroad. Several radio and record productions were made.

In 1993 Christian Fitzner took over a professorship at the State University for Music and Performing Arts in his hometown of Stuttgart.

At the beginning of 1994 he became artistic director and a short time later also managing director of the Philharmonic Chamber Orchestra in the small town of Wernigerode am Harz . Despite persistent problems in maintaining this orchestra permanently, Christian Fitzner managed to lead it to considerable success. So he is u. a. Co-founder of the Summer Festival at Wernigerode Castle, which has been taking place since 1996 . Christian Fitzner has also directed numerous international orchestras as a guest conductor.

In 1999 he was appointed music director .

Honors

In 2004 he received the Culture Prize of the City of Wernigerode .
