Christian Gottlieb Bunge

Christian Gottlieb Bunge ( Russian : Бунге, Христиан Георгиевич; * December 20, 1776 in Kiev ; † March 21, 1857 ibid) was a Russian medical doctor and veterinarian . He is considered to be the founder of pediatrics in the Russian Empire .

Life

Bunge began studying medicine at the Kiev-Mohyla Academy , he continued his studies at the St. Petersburg Medical-Surgical Institute and graduated in 1796. He then attended the University of Jena and completed advanced courses. In 1798 he defended his dissertation "On Epidemic Diseases in Kiev".

From 1802 he worked at the Kiev Mohyla Academy, taught at other educational institutions and ordained in his private practice . In 1812 he established his quarters in the Kiev military hospital . He made a significant improvement in equipping the academic hospital with equipment, tools and medicines. In the summer near Kiev, together with students from the academy, he collected medicinal herbs for the hospital. 1831, introduced by him prevented prevention system the spread of cholera among students at the Kiev Mohyla Academy. He was repeatedly honored and for 1832 for his excellent work and the promotion of children's medicine Kollegienrat appointed. After his death he was buried in the Baykovsky Cemetery in Kiev in 1857, his grave site was destroyed in the 1930s.

Origin and family

Christian Gottlieb Bunge was one of the four sons of the pharmacist who immigrated from East Prussia, Georg Friedrich Bunge (1722–1792), who was married to Katharina Geither and owned a pharmacy in Kiev. His nephew Friedrich Georg von Bunge (1802-1897) belonged to the Bunges family , he was an Estonian lawyer. Christian Gottlieb married Melanie Ferrad (1791 in Dunkerque ; † 1816 in Kiev) and Katharina von Gebner (* 1786 in Brjansk ; † 1877 in Kiev) in his 2nd marriage . The sons Heinrich Georg Konstantin Bunge (* 1811 in Kiev; † 1885 in Warsaw ) and Nikolai Bunge (* 1823 in Kiev; † 1895 in Saint Petersburg ) came from the second marriage .
