Christian Gruber (geographer)

Johann Christian Gruber (born December 14, 1858 in Wassertrüdingen , † June 10, 1906 in Munich ) was a German teacher and geographer .

Life

Christian Gruber attended the preparatory school in Wassertrüdingen and was appointed to the primary schools in Munich in 1878 after passing the teachers' seminar in Schwabach. From 1878 to 1885 he studied at the Technical University of Munich . In 1880 he was awarded the first prize of the university for his work on the geographic prize question “ The Isar between the Loisach and Amperein confluence ”. In 1881 he passed the state examination for teaching German language, history and geography. After a temporary break to learn Greek and Latin and to write scientific publications, he returned to the school service and was employed on March 1, 1887 as main teacher and class professor at the municipal business school in Munich. In 1887, with his dissertationAbout the source area and the formation of the Isar ” at the University of Leipzig, he was awarded a Dr. phil. PhD .

Christian Gruber is best known for his writings on economic geography, some of which had several editions and were revised by Hans Reinlein after his death.

Christian Gruber was a member of the Bavarian Botanical Society and on June 18, 1894 was elected a member ( registration number 3037 ) of the German Academy of Natural Scientists Leopoldina .
