Christian Siegmund love

Christian Siegmund Liebe (also love or love ) (born November 5, 1654 in Freiberg , † September 3, 1708 in Zschopau ) was a German composer and organist of the Baroque .

Life

Christian Liebe received his first musical training in his hometown Freiberg from the local cantor Christoph Frölich. In 1676 he turned to Leipzig , where he enrolled at the university as a theology student. An involvement of Liebes in the student or church music care of Leipzig is not verifiable, but seems very likely. After working as a music teacher for a Dresden noble family (from 1679), he was appointed rector and organist in Frauenstein in 1684 and rector in Zschopau from 1691 . Even if it was not part of his duties in Zschopau, Lieben probably worked very often as an organist and director of church musicWith. It is also very likely that the majority of his works were created there. Love died in 1708 at the age of 53.

Works

The spread of his works speaks for the fact that Christian Liebe was a popular composer of the late 17th and early 18th centuries. His works can now be found in libraries in Strasbourg , Berlin (formerly held by the court chapel of the Dukes of Schleswig-Holstein-Gottorf ), Dresden (formerly held by the Princely School of Grimma ) and Mügeln . A fairly extensive collection can also be found in the Bibliothèque du Séminaire Protestant in Strasbourg. The majority of Christian Liebes' traditional works are cantatas , some with an exceptionally large wind instrumentation.
