Christian Ludwig Hartmann von Landwüst (born May 24, 1773 in Ilsenburg ; † November 11, 1844 ) was a Prussian and then Stolberg-Wernigerödischer official. He worked as a forester in the Harz Mountains .

Life

He came from the Saxon noble family von Landwüst and was the son of Johann Friedrich Ludwig von Landwüst (1738–1795), who came from Lusatia, had studied law at the universities in Jena and Halle and was chief forest master in the service of Count Christian Friedrich to Stolberg-Wernigerode and succeeded Hans Dietrich von Zanthier in the county of Wernigerode . His mother was Charlotta Dorothea nee Freifrau von Hohenthal (1745-1824) from a Leipzig family raised to the nobility. Thanks to a lucky inheritance, his parents came into possession of the Großgestewitz manor in the Kingdom of Saxony (Kingdom of Prussia from 1815).

Christian Ludwig Hartmann von Landwüst was tutored by private tutors. In the period from 1789 to 1792 he trained in the field of forest science and mathematics. In 1793 he went to the private school of the forestry council von Zanthier in Oranienburg and afterwards to the training with the chief forest master von Burgsdorff in Berlin .

In 1795 he was appointed Prussian head forester in South Prussia. At the suggestion of FL von Schroetter, Christian Ludwig Hartmann von Landwüst became head forester at the War and Domain Chamber in the New East Prussian town of Plock in 1798 . However, he still lacked practical experience, and a lack of thoroughness in particular was criticized at the time. Until after the battle of Jena and Auerstedt in 1806 von Landwüst was active in New East Prussia. He went back to his homeland, where he entered the service of Count Christian Friedrich zu Stolberg-Wernigerode and took over the post of chief forestry officer of the County of Wernigerode in Ilsenburg. He held this office until his death. Friedrich von Hagen became his successor in office.
