Christian Matras (cameraman)

Christian Matras (born December 29, 1903 in Valence , † May 4, 1977 in Paris ) was a French cameraman .

Life

Matras initially worked as a reporter for the Éclair-Journal and began working for film in the 1920s with camera work for newsreels , worked for documentaries from 1926 and switched to feature films in 1932 . Thanks to his extremely precise shooting style, which also captures seemingly minor details, Matras quickly became one of the most sought-after and respected cameramen in French cinema. He worked with directors such as René Clair , Marc Allégret or Georges Franju and Max Ophüls .
