Helmut Seitz (born July 27, 1956 in Bad Dürkheim , † April 1, 2009 in Dresden ) was a German financial scientist . Seitz was Professor of Public Finance at the Technical University in Dresden , since October 1995 Research Professor at the Center for European Economic Research (ZEW) in Mannheim, since July 1999 Senior Fellow at the Center for European Integration Research (ZEI) in Bonn ( Jürgen von Hagen ) and since September 2002 research professor at the Ifo Institute for Economic Research , Munich, especially in Dresden.

Life

Born in Bad Dürkheim in Rhineland-Palatinate in 1956 , Seitz studied economics in Mannheim from 1978 to 1983 . He completed his doctoral thesis on planning and implementation decisions by industrial companies in 1989. His habilitation followed in 1994; the title was: Local infrastructure supply, taxation and inter-regional competition. Theoretical aspects and empirical findings. From 1995 to 2004 Seitz held the chair for macroeconomics at the European University Viadrina in Frankfurt (Oder) and from 2004 until his death he held the chair for economics, in particular empirical finance and financial policy, at the economics faculty of the TU Dresden .

Seitz became known, among other things, as an appraiser for the lawsuit brought by the Free Hanseatic City of Bremen for further financial aid before the Federal Constitutional Court and as an expert for the Federalism Commission .

Helmut Seitz died on April 1, 2009 in an accident in Dresden.
