Marcel Thum

Marcel Thum (born June 12, 1965 in Munich ) is a German economist , professor of economics at the Technical University of Dresden and director of the Ifo Institute in Dresden .

Life

Marcel Thum was born in Munich in 1965. From 1985 to 1990 he studied economics at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich and graduated with a degree in economics. He then worked there at the Chair of Economics and Public Finance as a research assistant and received his doctorate in 1995 . After a short stay as John Foster Dulles Visiting Lecturer at the Woodrow Wilson School of Princeton University , he returned to Munich and was a research assistant there until his habilitation in 2001 . Since 2001 he has been professor of economics at the TU Dresden and since 2004 head of the branch of the Ifo Institute in Dresden. He is chairman of the scientific advisory board at the Federal Ministry of Finance .
