Heinz Putzhammer

Heinz Putzhammer (born March 31, 1941 in Freilassing ; † June 27, 2006 in Berlin ) was a German elementary school teacher and from 1998 to May 2006 a member of the executive board of the German Federation of Trade Unions (DGB). Since 2001 he has also been a member of the National Ethics Council of Germany .

Life

Heinz Putzhammer completed a teaching degree in Munich from 1959 to 1964 and then began working as a primary school teacher in Bavaria (until 1980). In 1968 he joined the education and science union and was elected chairman of the GEW regional association of Bavaria in 1977. From 1980 to 1998 he was a member of the executive committee of the Education and Science Union and, in 1997, Deputy Chairman of the Education and Science Union. In 1998 he became a member of the Executive Board of the German Trade Union Confederation for the first time and was re-elected on May 28, 2002. At the 18th Ordinary DGB Federal Congress from May 22nd to 26th, 2006 in Berlin, he did not stand for re-election and due to a serious illness could no longer take part in the congress.

Memberships and commissions

Heinz Putzhammer was a member of the Economic and Social Committee of the European Union in 1999 and a member of the German Bundestag's “Globalization” Enquête Commission in 2000 . In 2001 he was a member of the Council for National Development and in the same year was appointed a member of the National Ethics Council by resolution of the Federal Cabinet . Also in 2001 he was a member of the Government Commission on Corporate Governance, a member of the Corporate Governance Code Commission and a member of the Independent Commission “Immigration” and later a member of the Eastern Discussion Group .
