Christian Emeka Okoye (born August 16, 1961 in Enugu ) is a former Nigerian -born American football player and athlete .

Okoye was an excellent athlete in his youth and particularly excelled in the technical disciplines ( discus throw , shot put , hammer throw ). He hoped to represent Nigeria at the 1984 Summer Olympics , but was not nominated. In 1985 he became African champion in the discus throw . For his college education, he went to Azusa Pacific University, USA, and began playing American football. As a running back he was so successful that it the Kansas City Chiefs in the NFL Draft committed in 1987 35th. After two rather inconspicuous years, Okoye broke through in 1989 by gaining 1,480 yards, scoring 12 touchdowns, leading the NFL in rushing yards and being voted NFL's best players in the Pro Bowl . For his powerful running style, Okoye earned the honorary name "Nigerian Nightmare" (German: Nigerian nightmare ). After suffering from a knee problem in 1990, he experienced a strong comeback in 1991 (1,031 yards, 9 touchdowns, Pro Bowl), until he got less and less action from 1992 due to declining health and ended his career after 1992. The Chiefs honor him by inducting him into the Chiefs Hall of Fame in 2000 . After his career, Okoye got involved in charities.

Okoye is well known for gamers because he is almost invulnerable to running trains in the cult video game Tecmo Super Bowl (1991).
