Christian Bogumil Pawlak (born September 12, 1979 in Kętrzyn , Poland ) is a German professional boxer and boxing trainer. He is the current WBU world champion in the super middleweight division and WBCA champion (2014) and lives in the East Westphalian town of Espelkamp in North Rhine-Westphalia .

Amateur career

Pawlak switched from martial arts such as karate and taekwondo to boxing at the age of 15 . He trained in the boxing club Espelkamp (BCE) and in the boxing club Minden . In his amateur middleweight career , the left wingman won 92 of his 112 fights, including nine draws and eleven defeats.

Professional career

His debut as a professional boxer took place on March 31, 2006 in Potsdam , where Pawlak defeated the Romanian Florin Duta in the third round by a technical knockout. 2007 Pawlak was of the boxing stable "Rocky's Gym" in Duisburg by Graciano Rocchigiani contracted. Rocchigiani, who died on October 1, 2018, was not only a coach and mentor for Pawlak, but also a role model and friend. On May 16, 2008 Pawlak won the ten-round fight against Mirko Kern in the Ballhaus Arena of Aschersleben (Saxony-Anhalt) by knocking out in the fourth round. After his eleventh professional fight, he became German super middleweight champion of the Bund Deutscher Berufsboxer (BDB) - the first and only title holder of Graciano Rocchigiani's boxing team, which has now been disbanded.

In 2014 he became Intercontinental Champion of the Boxing Association WBCA and GBU Champion at the Fight Night in the Merkur Arena in Lübbecke (North Rhine-Westphalia). Without having a large boxing stable behind him, he fought his other professional fights himself. On May 12, 2015 he won the fourth round by knocking out Toni Thes and won his first world championship title from the WBU world association in the Pied Piper Hall in Hameln in front of 1,000 spectators. Pawlak defended his WBU world championship belt on April 30, 2016 with a technical knockout in the third round against Baker Barakat in the Kampa-Halle in Minden (North Rhine-Westphalia). The second defense of his WBU belt, again against Baker Barakat, in December 2016 was canceled due to a dispute over gloves during the event. The reigning world champion had made use of international law to choose his own gloves. Barakat had insisted on uniform gloves and also exceeded the prescribed fighting weight of 76.2 kilograms in the super middleweight with 81.9 kilograms.

On June 17, 2017, Pawlak organized the first world championship match in his hometown Espelkamp . In the community center he defeated Ziso Poulitsa after twelve rounds by a technical knockout and again defended his WBU belt.

He organized another fight night in Espelkamp on March 10, 2018 and won after twelve rounds against the Croatian Bosco Misic. Graciano Rocchigiani supervised Pawlak during the fight. The desired cooperation with Rocchigiani could no longer come about due to his surprising death on October 1, 2018.

Pawlak has played 48 fights in his professional career so far, 39 of them victorious and 27 by knockout, eight defeats and one draw.

Career as a coach

Pawlak, known as "Champ" by his fans, runs his own gym "Gym Pawlak" in Hüllhorst (North Rhine-Westphalia), where he trains young boxers. He is active as a fitness trainer in several sports studios and works as a personal trainer . As the trainer and coach of boxer Riza Baydilli from Espelkamp, Pawlak achieved his first title as a trainer. On December 14th, 2019 Riza Baydilli became German heavyweight champion of the GBA in the fight against Eric Schwartmann in the "Golden Eagle Box Gym" in Elmshorn .

social commitment

Pawlak is committed to helping children and young people to get them excited about boxing and to give them self-confidence through this sport. He gives fitness boxing courses in kindergartens and schools. In the Herford correctional facility , he volunteers training with juvenile offenders. His aim is to give young people better body control through sport and to show them a new perspective on life.
