Christian Pescheck (prehistoric)

Christian Pescheck (born August 12, 1912 in Breslau ; † August 20, 2003 in Munich ) was a prehistorian, university teacher and monument conservator.

Pescheck graduated from high school "Zum Heiligen Geist" in Breslau and then studied prehistory at the universities of Munich and Breslau . In 1937 he was promoted to Dr. phil is doing his doctorate. He subsequently worked as an assistant and then a lecturer at the University of Vienna , where he completed his habilitation in 1942 . His unpublished habilitation thesis The Junghallstättische Kultur im Reichsgau Niederdonau was a first summary and epochal interpretation of this cultural phenomenon for Eastern Austria (specimen copy in the library of the Institute for Prehistory and Early History of the University of Vienna)

From 1956 to 1977 Pescheck was head of the Würzburg branch of the Bavarian State Office for Monument Preservation and from 1963 he had a teaching position at the University of Würzburg (honorary professor). He was also involved in numerous excavations, for example in the Oppidum Manching but also in Beni-Salame in Egypt.

Christian Pescheck wrote numerous specialist papers of trend-setting importance for both Lower Austria and Bavaria.
