Christian Saalfrank

Christian Saalfrank (born August 1, 1970 in Wiesbaden ) is a German cultural manager and musicologist .

Life

Saalfrank studied musicology , history and political science at the universities of Frankfurt am Main and Bologna. In 1998 he received his PhD. phil. with Peter Ackermann with a thesis on the development of tonality in classical vocal polyphony .

Subsequently, as managing director, he was responsible for founding a platform for classical music on the Internet at Schott Music International (1998/99) before founding the association Musikakzente 21. Jh. EV together with the conductor and cultural project developer Eberhard Kloke . Here he was managing director and production manager of music theater projects at the IBA Emscher-Park - Finale 1999, the Expo 2000 in Hanover, Saxony-Anhalt and Luxembourg, as well as in the 2004 regional event series in North Rhine-Westphalia .

From 2001 to 2003 he worked as project manager for public markets at the Berlin agency Wegweiser GmbH and was responsible for projects such as the “procurement conference” and was project manager for accompanying research in the e-procurement project at the Federal Ministry of Economics .

He then became the managing director of the production company Blue Panther TV GmbH.

From 2012 he was managing director of the sponsoring company of the Schleswig-Holstein Musik Festival mbH.

Music productions and concepts

In cooperation with sponsors of the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival , Saalfrank developed numerous concert projects between 2012 and 2014 that brought specific needs of sponsors into harmony with modern concert forms. So in 2013 the so-called SHMF battle with RedBull Flying Bach, a piano staircase in the Hamburg S-Bahn or room concerts, for example for the Port of Kiel in a storage shed.

In 2004, Saalfrank was responsible for the world premiere of Eberhard Kloke's new version of “Wozzeck” by Alban Berg as production manager at Regionale 2004, as well as the realization of the music and space programs for the future of Beethoven I and II (Liesborn Abbey and Nottbeck Cultural Property). In 2004, he produced the music project The Judgment for the Charité in Berlin in the ruined lecture hall of the Medical History Museum.

With the “A meeting in Telgte. Die Reise ... “he produced a music project that combined several concerts throughout the Münsterland into one musical journey. A variant of it was the project “The meeting in Cadolzburg” in the same year.

As part of the Expo 2000 he produced “In the Hours of the New Moon” in the former Vockerode power station , a music project by Eberhard Kloke for orchestras, choirs and solos in the room. In the same year he produced an extension of this project to include commissioned compositions and works by Morton Feldman for the 2000 World Music Days in Luxembourg.

He was responsible for his first music production as administrative manager in 1999 as part of the project "Music in the industrial space for the final of the IBA Emscher Park" with three projects: "The Erlkönig" in the machine hall of the Sachsen colliery in Hamm, "Beyond the sound" in the Jahrhunderthalle Bochum and "Edgar Varese - Das Werk" in the Zeche Zollverein coking plant and the Duisburg-Nord landscape park .
