Christian Spescha (born January 25, 1989 in Ilanz ) is a former Swiss ski racer .

biography

Spescha drove his first FIS race in December 2004. After never finishing in the top 20, he achieved his first podium in January 2006 and in December 2006 he won his first FIS race. In February 2007 Spescha became Swiss junior downhill champion. A month earlier, he had already achieved second place in the Swiss Junior Championships in giant slalom. In March of the same year he took part in a junior world championship for the first time in Altenmarkt . However, he only finished 48th in the downhill and was eliminated in all other competitions. A year later he was only able to finish the downhill run in 24th place at the Junior World Championships in 2008 in Formigal and again failed to achieve a result in the other competitions.

Since January 2008 Spescha has also competed in the European Cup . By the end of the season, however, he was only placed around 50th. He won his first European Cup points at the beginning of the 2008/09 season with 27th place in the giant slalom on the Reiteralm . In January 2009 he finished in the top 20 in both Wengen runs and in February he achieved two fourth places in the super combinations from Sarntal - Reinswald and Tarvisio and thus also fourth place in the super combination classification. He was unable to contest the last races of the season, however, because on March 4th he fell in the descent of the 2009 Junior World Championships in Garmisch-Partenkirchen and broke his left forearm.

On November 25th, 2009 Spescha celebrated his first victory in the European Cup in the giant slalom in Levi . He made his debut in the World Cup on December 20, 2009 in the giant slalom in Alta Badia , where he was eliminated in the first run. In the European Cup, he won the overall ranking of the 2009/10 season with two further victories in the downhill on Patscherkofel and in the super-G of Les Orres as well as a total of eleven top 10 results and achieved fifth place in the discipline ratings in the downhill and in the super -G. Due to this success he was accepted into the Swiss A-squad and received several starting places for the World Cup. In the 2010/11 season he came to twelve appearances in the World Cup, in which he never drove under the fastest 30 and thus remained without World Cup points. He continued to compete in the European Cup, but, unlike last year, did not achieve a podium. At the end of the season he became Swiss Super-G Champion at the same time as Mauro Caviezel . Due to lack of success, he was relegated from the A to the B squad.

In December 2013 Spescha injured his knee during the European Cup descent in Madonna di Campiglio . After a long injury break with no prospect of improvement, he ended his career in May 2015.
