Křesćan Bohuwěr Pful
Křesćan Bohuwěr Pful (German Christian Traugott Pfuhl , born March 28, 1825 in Bautzen , Kingdom of Saxony , † December 21, 1889 in Pirna ) was a Sorbian educator and linguist . He laid the foundations for modern Upper Sorbian orthography .
Life
Křesćan Bohuwěr Pful was born as the son of the owner of the Bautzen city estate near Preuschwitz . He attended grammar school in Bautzen and studied classical philology , theology and Slavic studies in Leipzig from 1843 . In 1846 he received his doctorate.
From 1847 he worked as a teacher at the Kreuzschule in Dresden . That year he was one of the founders of the Sorbian society Maćica Serbska . In 1848, in the first edition of their journal Časopis towarstwa Maćicy Serbskeje , he proposed a uniform analogous orthography for the Upper Sorbian language based on the Czech model. This has been used by the magazine ever since and finally established itself in modern Upper Sorbian spelling into the 20th century.
In 1861 he moved to the Vitzthum grammar school in Dresden , where he was appointed grammar school professor in 1863. In 1866 he published a dictionary of the Lausitzian-Wendish language. He retired in 1871 and moved to Neschwitz in 1878 , where he lived until his death.
