Christian von Herold (born July 19, 1669 in Halle , † February 10, 1744 in Berlin ) was a Prussian secret finance, war and domain council in Berlin and heir to Leuenberg, Brunow and Biesow.

Life

origin

His parents were Johann Christoph Herold (* October 31, 1631; † June 22, 1704), heir to Riedburg, and his wife Dorothea Wildvogel (* October 10, 1640; † June 28, 1709). His brother Friedrich Wilhelm Herold (1680–1738) was Lord Mayor of Halle.

Career

Herold went to high school in Halle and then studied law there and in Erfurt. Here he learned from his brother-in-law Georg Heinrich Brükner in 1690 and from Dietrich Wilhelm Matthias in 1694. After his cavalier tour he returned to Halle and began to work for the government in Magdeburg. From there the king brought him to Berlin as a secret war and domain adviser. In 1719 he bought the Brunow estate. and 1734 Leuenberg.

For his services he was raised to the nobility on May 18, 1720. When the Archbishop of Salzburg expelled the Protestants from his area in 1731 , many went to Prussia. Herold was entrusted with the integration of the refugees. In 1733 he also received the Order De la Générosité .

family

His first wife was Gertraut von Essen († December 13, 1705). She was the daughter of the Swedish court advisor to Greifswald Franz von Essen . The couple had a son, Johann Franz Christian (* December 2, 1705; † July 13, 1718), who however died early of smallpox .

After the death of his first wife, Herold married Eva Katharina von Klinggräff (* November 10, 1692; † 1767). She was the daughter of the secret finance councilor Joachim von Klingräff. This compound was prepared by King Friedrich Wilhelm I carried. The couple had several children:
