Christina Strunck
Christina Strunck (* 1970 in Munich ) is a German art historian .
Life
Christina Strunck studied art history, general and comparative literature and theater studies in Mainz , Cambridge and Berlin (MA at the FU Berlin 1994) as a scholarship holder of the German National Academic Foundation . A research stay in Rome followed from 1995 to 1999 , supported by grants from the DAAD , the State of Berlin and the Bibliotheca Hertziana (Max Planck Institute for Art History). From 1999 to 2001 she taught as a lecturer in art history at the University of York . 2001 PhD at the Free University of Berlin with the work "Bernini's unknown masterpiece: Architecture and program of the Galleria Colonna in Rome", which was awarded the Otto Hahn Medal of the Max Planck Society in 2002. From 2002 to 2006 Strunck was a research assistant at the Bibliotheca Hertziana in Rome. This was followed by postdoctoral fellowships in Paris, at Villa I Tatti (The Harvard University Center for Italian Renaissance Studies), at the Art History Institute in Florence , at the Getty Research Institute in Los Angeles and at the Herzog August Library in Wolfenbüttel. 2009-2014 she was a research assistant at the Art History Institute of the University of Marburg , where she is working "Christiane of Lorraine at the Medici court: gender discourse and cultural transfer between Florence, France and Lorraine" habilitated . In 2014 she was appointed to the chair for art history at the Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg and has been director of the institute for art history there since 2015. In 2018 she was visiting professor at the University of Cambridge and the Yunnan Arts University in Kunming (China).
Work areas
Christina Strunck's research focuses on Italian, French and British art and architecture of the early modern period and relate, among other things, to cultural transfer processes between Great Britain and continental Europe as well as between Catholic and Protestant cultures, image-space science, questions of art and architecture theory, gallery buildings and historical exhibition concepts, museum forms of communication, social and client history (old nobility and nephews in the Rome of Seicento, art patronage of the Medici dynasty) and gender studies (image politics of regents and court artists). Since 2018 she has headed the research projects "Modeling Cultural History at the Germanisches Nationalmuseum: Mediation Concepts for the 21st Century" ( Volkswagen Foundation ) and "Art and Crisis: Transnational and Interdenominational Translation Processes in Visual Arts and Architecture in Great Britain, 1625-1727" ( DFG ).
