Franz Poledne

Franz Poledne (born April 10, 1873 in Vienna , † January 7, 1932 in Klosterneuburg ) was an Austrian painter and illustrator .

life and work

Franz Poledne already worked as a teenager in 1888 in the studio of the court theater painter Hermann Burghart . He worked there until 1893. In the meantime he attended the drawing school of the Graphic Education and Research Institute in Vienna. He then worked as an illustrator for magazines such as Über Land und Meer and Illustrirte Welt . From 1907 until his death he worked as an illustrator for the Illustrierte Kronen Zeitung .

As a painter, Franz Poledne created oil paintings and watercolors . In his vedute , he documented the change in the cityscape of Vienna and, along with Rudolf von Alt , Emil Hütter , Franz Kopallik , Richard Moser and Erwin Pendl, was one of those painters who shaped a sentimental image of old Vienna . Poledne participated in the First World War as a militia - Zugsführer part and got in 1918, the Golden Cross of Merit on ribbon of the Medal of Honor awarded. He was also one of the numerous painters who worked for the Imperial and Royal War Press Headquarters .

Franz Poledne was married and had a son. He lived in Klosterneuburg, where he died at the age of 58 after a serious illness. He had been treated by the later Nazi euthanasia doctor Emil Gelny , with whom he was friends. Poledne was buried at the Upper City Cemetery in Klosterburg.
