Christine Laprell (also Christel , Christl and Christa ; born May 6, 1950 in Munich ) is a former German ski racer . She took part in the Olympic Winter Games in 1968 and became German champion in downhill skiing that same year .

Career

After Laprell had shown good performances at the German youth championships as a 13-year-old, she was already part of the national team at the age of 14 and won her first FIS race in Mayrhofen at the age of 16 . From the 1966/67 season she was one of the strongest German ski racers. As a 15-year-old she was already fifth in the German slalom championship when Heidi Biebl won. She won her only championship in 1968 in the downhill .

The climax of her short career was the 1968 Winter Olympics in Grenoble , with the Alpine competitions, which also counted as World Championships, being held in Chamrousse . Laprell achieved tenth place in slalom and 15th place in giant slalom . In addition, she was 24th in the downhill and thus tenth in the combined classification , which was only rated as a world championship competition and not as an Olympic discipline. Because the Olympic Games were also part of the World Cup at that time , Laprell won World Cup points for the first and only time in her career with her tenth place in slalom. In the same year she became German downhill champion.

At the end of the 1968 season, Laprell announced her retirement from active ski racing at the age of only 17. At a time when there was still no money to be made in skiing, the Abitur - she attended grammar school with secondary school in Tegernsee - and medical studies were more important. Today Laprell runs a practice for general medicine in Tegernsee .
