Christine Andrina Elisabeth Maria Mohrmann (born August 1, 1903 in Groningen , † July 13, 1988 in Nijmegen ) was a Dutch philologist and university professor. Her work focused on early Christian texts in Greek, Vulgar Latin and medieval Latin texts.

Life

After attending grammar school in Groningen and Arnhem , Mohrmann studied Classical Philology as well as Greek and Latin Linguistics at the Universities of Utrecht and Nijmegen . Here she attended lectures by Wilhelm Vollgraff , Pieter Helbert Damsté and Engelbert Drerup . In 1932 she completed her studies at the University of Nijmegen and was awarded a thesis on The Early Christian Special Language in the Sermons of St. Augustin is doing his doctorate. She then worked as a private lecturer and lecturer for Vulgar Latin, Early Christian Latin and Late Latin at the Universities of Utrecht and Amsterdam. In 1953 she took over the professorship for Early Christian Greek, Early Christian Latin and Middle Latin in Nijmegen and an additional one in Amsterdam in 1955 before accepting a full professorship for Latin and Greek Philology in Nijmegen. She retired in 1973.

Together with Jan Hendrik Waszink she was the founder of the magazine Vigiliae Christianae, the name of which goes back to her.
