Christof Tannert

Christof Tannert (born April 4, 1946 in Wehrsdorf , Bautzen district ; † April 12, 2019 in Berlin ) was a German biologist and politician ( SPD ).

Life

Tannert studied biology at the University of Leipzig . In 1971 he was arrested for group formation that was dangerous to the state. His dissertation on questions of plant metabolism under the influence of herbicides, which he had started at the Academy of Sciences in the GDR , was canceled. In 1972 he was granted an amnesty, in 1977 he discovered the senescence antigen in human erythrocytes . In 1979 he received another doctorate, now at the Berlin Charité on the subject of investigations into the aging of red blood cells. The habilitation , scheduled for 1982, was blocked by the Ministry of State Security . From 1980 he studied Protestant theology in a correspondence course and passed the theological exam in 1984. From 1981 to 1989 he worked as a bookseller and art gallery owner in East Berlin .

In 1987 he took part in the Olof Palme Peace March for a nuclear-weapon-free corridor in Central Europe. In the same year he was one of the signatories of the basic church initiative "Rejection of Practice and Principle of Demarcation", with which the SED was called on to enter into a dialogue about democratic changes and from which the citizens' movement " Democracy Now !" In 1989 he played a key role in founding the “ Neues Forum ” in Berlin-Lichtenberg . In 1989/90 he was a co-founder of Greenpeace GDR and the first independent environmental institute of the GDR (UfU) and its chairman.

From 1992 to 1994 he was deputy state chairman of the Berlin SPD , from 1991 to 1994 a member of the Berlin House of Representatives and from 1994 to 1999 a member of the European Parliament .

From 2007 onwards, Tannert published several works of fiction in various cost publishers .
