Christoph Florentius Kött (born November 7, 1801 in St. Martin ; † October 17, 1873 in Fulda ) was bishop of the diocese of Fulda from 1848 to 1873 .

Life

Kött was ordained a priest on December 18, 1824 . On March 29, 1848 he was appointed Bishop of Fulda, and was confirmed in office on December 11, 1848. Finally, on May 1, 1849, Hermann von Vicari , Archbishop of Freiburg im Breisgau , donated his episcopal ordination .

From 1871 the Kulturkampf also made itself felt in the diocese. The first criminal proceedings after the May Laws were passed was initiated against the Fulda bishop. During his tenure, Bishop Kött ordained the future Bishop Adalbert Endert , namely on April 6, 1873, as a priest. Kött re-founded the boys' seminary, which was now housed together with the seminary in the former convent building. In 1873 he opposed laws that allowed the state to exert massive influence on the seminar business, whereupon he was arrested.

On October 17, 1873, shortly after his arrest, Kött died in Fulda. The disputes led to the abolition of the boys '(1873) and the priests' seminars (December 1874). After Kötts death, the office of bishop in Fulda remained vacant for years.
