Christoph G. Paulus

Christoph Georg Paulus (born September 21, 1952 in Sande ) was full professor for civil law , civil litigation and insolvency law as well as Roman law at the Law Faculty of the Humboldt University in Berlin , director of the Institute for Interdisciplinary Restructuring (iir) e. V. and repeatedly advisor to the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank .

Life

Paul is the son of the jurist Gotthard Paulus , considered to 1976 Professor of Civil Law and the Civil Procedure Law at the Ludwig-Maximilians-University taught. Paulus was appointed associate professor for civil law and civil procedural law at the University of Augsburg in 1992 , moved to the Humboldt University in Berlin in 1994 and taught there until the 2018/2019 winter semester as a full professor of civil law, civil procedural law, insolvency law and Roman law.

Between 2004 and 2008 he was Dean of International Programs and from 2008 to 2010 Dean of the Law Faculty of the Humboldt University in Berlin .

Consulting activities

In 1998 Paul was an advisor to the International Monetary Fund (IMF) in Washington, DC , where he worked on basic principles and legislative guidelines for bankruptcy proceedings. For the IMF , he was also involved as a consultant in the work on insolvency proceedings for states (Sovereign Debt Restructuring Mechanism = SDRM). He has also reviewed the bankruptcy laws of several transition countries for the IMF .

In 2006 Paulus was again active as an advisor to the World Bank in Washington, DC , where he worked on various bankruptcy law issues.

Paulus has also been an advisor to the German delegation since 2006 during the UNCITRAL meetings in New York and Vienna on the occasion of the development of corporate insolvency law (until 2011).

Other professional activities

On the occasion of the annual meeting of the Association of Insolvency Experts INSOL Europe in Paris, Paulus was appointed Chair of the Academic Forum on September 26, 2013. It was this until the 2016 annual meeting in Cascais .

Awards

From 1989 to 1990 Paulus was a Feodor Lynen Fellow of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation in Berkeley , California ( USA ). In 1993 he was awarded the medal of the University of Paris II for his habilitation thesis as part of the international Gerard Boulvert competition.
