Christoph Gotthelf König
Christoph Gotthelf König (born November 27, 1765 in Schwarzbach near Königsfeld , † December 5, 1832 in Meißen ) was a German educator.
Life
Christoph Gotthelf König studied theology and philology at the University of Leipzig , where he obtained his master's degree .
From 1790 to 1795 he was a theology candidate in Chemnitz and headed the Schola collecta ; He also imparted his knowledge of ancient languages to a group of young men .
At the end of 1795 he was appointed vice rector of the Lyceum in Annaberg and found the school in a desolate state, so when he arrived he was teaching only three students in the Secunda grade . Over time he managed to improve the condition of the school and increase the number of students again.
In 1800 he received the post of Tertius at the Princely School of Meißen and entered there with his speech De causis infrequentiorum hac nostra aetate scholarum publicarum ; In 1804 he became vice principal and in 1800 third teacher.
In 1811/1812, the teaching staff worked with the school inspector, Baron Dietrich von Miltitz , to develop new school regulations. The class composition should be different for each lesson, a forerunner of the modern course system for high schools. In addition, the first regular holidays were introduced at the Princely School. After the Princely School received this new organization in 1812, Christoph Gotthelf König became the representative of the Rector Karl Heinrich Tzschucke (1746–1813) and followed this in 1813 in his office.
In 1812 his former student Johann Gottlieb Kreyssig received the second professorship at the Princely School from the Schola Collecta in Chemnitz, with whom he now wanted to bring the school on a new path. In addition to Latin, the languages Greek, German and French and mathematics were taught more intensively, but he was unable to remedy the deficits in the discipline. In addition, he did not succeed in coordinating with the other teachers in assessing the students; the secondary teachers working under the professors who had joined since the new organization expressed their dissatisfaction and were anxious to leave the school again. As a result, Christoph Gotthelf König resigned from his post as rector in 1827, but remained the first teacher at the school until his death; the provisional management of the school until the next Rector arrived, was with Johann Gottlieb Kreyssig.
As a philologist, he edited some writings.
Christoph Gotthelf König was married.
