Christoph Heinrich von Watzdorf , from 1719 Count von Watzdorf , contemporary mostly Watzdorff (* October 4, 1670 , † January 3, 1729 in Dresden ) was an electoral Saxon cabinet minister under Augustus the Strong as well as the manor owner and builder of Lichtenwalde Castle .

Life

He came from the Vogtland noble family Watzdorf , whose representatives had settled in the county of Mansfeld, particularly in Erdeborn near Sangerhausen . Like many of his family members, Christoph Heinrich von Watzdorf served the Wettins . At the court of Augustus the Strong in Dresden, he rose to the position of royal Polish and electoral Saxon cabinet minister and real secret council, chief tax and general accus director and provost of Budissin . From his father's possession and through purchases, he owned numerous manors in the Electorate of Saxony, including Crostau and Stedten . On August 21, 1721 in Dresden he sold the last-named property, which was a man's fief, to the Brunswick-Lüneburg captain Hans Heinrich von Bodenhausen on Burgkemnitz .

In 1722 he bought the Lichtenwalde Castle near Chemnitz. He had a three-storey three-wing complex built on the foundation walls of the previous building. A simple structure with a mansard hipped roof was one of the largest private complexes in Saxony. Art treasures were collected inside the castle and presented to an illustrious audience.

Because of his services to the Saxon-Polish state, he and his descendants were raised to the status of imperial count in 1719.

He was married to Wilhelmine Friederike von Bock-Blosheim († 1744). Christian Heinrich von Watzdorf was one of his two sons.
