Christoph Holstein (born November 18, 1963 in Essen ) is a German journalist and political official ( SPD ). Since 2015 he has been a State Councilor for sport in the Ministry of the Interior and Sport in Hamburg .

Life

After studying German , political science and history , Holstein worked as a journalist for the Schleswig-Holstein newspaper publisher (1993–1998), was press spokesman for the Hamburg Internal Affairs Department (1998–2001) and for the SPD regional organization in Hamburg (2001–2004). After the journalist worked as press spokesman for the SPD parliamentary group in Hamburg between 2004 and 2011, he became head of the press office of the Senate and Senate spokesman in 2011. He held this post until his appointment to the State Council.

On April 17, 2015, Christoph Holstein was appointed by Senator Michael Neumann to the State Councilor of the Sports Department of the Hamburg Ministry of the Interior and Sports in Senate Scholz II . He succeeded Karl Schwinke and, unlike his predecessor, is solely responsible for the sports department in the authority. In particular after the failed referendum on Hamburg's application for the 2024 Summer Olympics , Holstein was under strong criticism from the opposition of the Hamburg citizenship .
