Christoph Kleemann

Christoph Kleemann (born April 17, 1944 in Meißen ; † October 28, 2015 ) was a German Evangelical Lutheran clergyman and civil rights activist . He was a member of the New Forum and served in the spring of 1990 as mayor in Rostock .

Life

From 1954 to 1962, Christoph Kleemann was a student member of the Dresden Kreuzchor . He studied Protestant theology at the University of Rostock from 1962 to 1967 and then held various church offices. Among other things, he worked as a youth pastor in Meißen, from 1976 as a student pastor in Rostock and from 1978 to 1985 he headed the “Education for Peace” working group of the Protestant student community. From 1986 to 1989 he was pastor in Dobbertin . In 1989 he was u. a. Spokesman for the New Forum and, in this capacity, a member of the round table for the city of Rostock. From 1990 to 1998 Kleemann held various municipal offices. In 1990, after the resignation of the SED mayor Henning Schleiff, he became the incumbent mayor of Rostock until the local election. He then held the office of Mayor President from 1990 to 1994. From 1994 to 1998 he taught at the CJD Jugenddorf-Christophorusschule Rostock in addition to his position as Vice President of the Citizenship . In 1999 Kleemann became head of the BStU branch in Rostock and held this position until he retired in April 2009.

In 2011 he was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit on ribbon .
