Christoph Kotanko

Christoph Kotanko (born July 27, 1953 in Braunau am Inn ) is an Austrian journalist.

Life

Christoph Kotanko studied Romance studies and journalism in Vienna and Paris and received his doctorate in philosophy . From 1979 to 1986 he was the domestic political editor of the weekly press , 1986 to 1988 editor of the news magazine profil . Since 1988 he has been with the daily newspaper Kurier , initially head of the domestic affairs department and commentator with a special focus on European and security policy. From 1997 to October 2003 he was deputy editor-in-chief , from November 2003 to September 2005 he was managing editor-in-chief. Since October 2005 he was editor-in-chief. On April 26, 2010 he announced that he would be stepping down as editor-in-chief at the end of July and that Helmut Brandstätter would take over his position. Since August 1st, 2010 Christoph Kotanko has been responsible for the digital editions of the newspaper. On June 30, 2011, after 23 years, he said goodbye to the courier and since September 1, 2011 he has been a correspondent for the Upper Austrian News in Vienna.

He is married to the teacher Ingrid Kotanko. He has a daughter with her, Katharina.

His older brother Florian Kotanko (born 1949) was the director of the Braunau grammar school until 2013, where Christoph Kotanko graduated from, and has headed the Association for Contemporary History since 1993 . For this he received the Golden Merit of the Republic of Austria . His younger brother Peter Kotanko (born 1957) is a university lecturer at the Medical University of Innsbruck and director of the research laboratory at the Renal Research Institute, New York .
