Christoph Mattes (born February 8, 1988 in Vienna ) is an Austrian football player on the position of midfielder .
Club career
Christoph Mattes began his playing career in Admira's youth department . After conspicuous performances in the Admira youth team, he received an offer from the Dutch first division club SC Heerenveen in 2003 , which he accepted.
In the youth of Heerenveen he developed into a top performer in his age group and was able to win the Dutch youth championship and the youth cup, among other things. For the 2007/08 season he was ordered into the professional squad of Heerenveen. Although he trained with the professional team, he continued to play only in the youth team. When his family fell ill in the winter of 2007, he asked Heerenveen for permission to move back home.
As a result, there were several offers, the most specific of which came from SK Schwadorf and Red Bull Salzburg . Due to the better perspective, Mattes decided on Salzburg and signed. His goal was to stay with the Red Bull Juniors only for a short time and to join the professional team as quickly as possible. After he spent the entire second half of the season with the amateurs and saw no chance of promotion to the professional team, he switched back to his home club FC Admira Wacker Mödling on loan in the summer of 2008 . As the official reason for the surprising change, Mattes stated that he had never felt comfortable in Salzburg and that Admira would now be close to his family.
After one and a half mixed seasons at Admira, in which he was only rarely able to meet the high expectations, the club announced that it would not take the option of buying the player.
In December 2009 he then completed a trial training session with the German third division club Eintracht Braunschweig . As a result, the club announced that although he had met the expectations in the trial training and was an interesting player, an obligation in the winter transition period would not be an option.
On January 31, 2011, he signed a contract for six months with the club's option for another with the traditional Austrian club First Vienna FC .
After a few short guest appearances at Austria Klagenfurt , in Burgenland and in Vienna, he was hired by the 1st Simmeringer SC in the summer of 2018 in order to build up a new, young team and lead it as a veteran. In addition, he also trains the offspring of the traditional Simmering club until he finally said goodbye to the football pension in summer 2020, but then decided to continue playing at SV Ebergassing.
National team
With the Austrian U-19 national team, he took part in the 2008 home European championship , which was disappointing for the team . From 2007 to 2009 he was part of the U-20 team in Austria. He has been an Austrian U-21 team player since 2008 .
